Young People Face Continued Employment Crisis

Statistics Korea says the number of people with jobs in the private sector is steadily growing, but young people are still facing difficulties in getting employed.

According to the agency Wednesday, the employed population was estimated at 24-point-two million in June, up 314-thousand from the same month of last year.

Although the number of employed dropped by 140-thousand in the public administration sector, the number of employees in the private sector rose by 454-thousand, including an increase of 181-thousand in the manufacturing sector and 175-thousand in the social welfare sector.

However, the agency’s data shows the unemployment crisis faced by people in their 20s and 30s is growing worse.

Compared to June of last year, the number of employees in other age brackets all saw increases, while the figure slid by 94-thousand for people in their 20s and 27-thousand for those in their 30s.
