N. Korea Demands Inter-Korean Probe into Cheonan Sinking

North Korea repeated its demand for an inter-Korean probe into the sinking of a South Korean warship in 2010, calling on the South to lift its sanctions imposed on the North after the incident.

The Policy Department of the North's National Defense Commission made the demand on Sunday, saying that the South imposed the May 24 measures based on the fabricated probe results of the incident.

The department said in a statement that if there is a basis to believe that Pyongyang was responsible for the sinking, Seoul should accept the North’s demands to jointly investigate the incident in front of the Korean people and the world.

North Korea also dismissed the South’s suggestion that Seoul could discuss lifting sanctions if the North accepts the South’s calls for dialogue.
