N. Korean Outlet Slams Defector as 'Top Criminal'

A North Korean media outlet has blasted a high-ranking diplomat who recently defected to South Korea as a "top class criminal."

On Friday, Uriminzokkiri, a North Korean propaganda Web site, claimed that former deputy ambassador to London Thae Yong-ho embezzled state funds and sold national secrets.

The site claimed that he is a "special criminal who fled in fear of legal punishment."

The Internet-based outlet also accused Seoul of using Thae to slander North Korea in order to take the South Korean people's attention away from the enormous corruption scandal rocking the country.

Thae, who defected to the South with his family in August, spoke during a news conference on Tuesday. He said that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un spies on every move of his people and officials in a reign of terror.

Thae said that Kim was on a dangerous nuclear path while even setting a timetable on completing the nation’s nuclear aspirations.
