A high-profile North Korean defector says leader Kim Jong-un aims to eliminate South Korea as he is becoming increasingly uneasy about the widening economic, psychological and military gap with the South.
Pyongyang's former deputy ambassador to London Thae Yong-ho made the remark during a special interview with KBS on Tuesday.
Thae said Kim can never come to terms with South Korea and its material and spiritual affluence as a subject for coexistence. The defector projected that Kim’s regime will soon face limits as it is being maintained purely by a reign of terror.
He stressed that unification is something that must be made and not something to wait around for and vowed to work for the goal of crumbling the regime within five years. He said outside help is essential in order for the North Korean people to rise up against the regime.
Thae defected to the South with his family last August.
