N. Korea Making Repatriation of Female Restaurant Employees a Global Issue

North Korea has demanded on the international stage that South Korea send back a group of North Korean women who defected to the South from China last year.

The North demanded the women’s immediate repatriation during the latest UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva. The North claimed that South Korean authorities committed abduction crimes and violated human rights with regard to a group of female employees of a North Korean restaurant in China who defected to South Korea.

The North is actively making the repatriation of the female employees a global issue and claiming that South Korea, the U.S. and Japan have no right to denounce the North’s human rights as they are criminal states when it comes to human rights.

Earlier in January, the North sent letters stating its demands regarding the issue to the UN secretary-general and the UN high commissioner for human rights.
