S. Korea Urges N. Korea to Join Dialogue

South Korean Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon has called on North Korea to accept Seoul’s latest proposals for dialogue.

The minister said on Monday that Pyongyang should accept Seoul’s proposals if it wants to sincerely pursue peace on the Korean Peninsula and the development of inter-Korean relations.

Cho said that inter-Korean dialogue and cooperation will create a virtuous circle of improving inter-Korean relations and resolving the North Korean nuclear issue.

He reaffirmed that Seoul will not pursue a hostile policy on the North, a regime collapse or reunification through the absorption of the North by the South.

The minister urged the North to accept the offer of inter-Korean Red Cross talks for inter-Korean family reunions, noting that 63 percent of those who applied for the reunions are over 80-years-old.

In addition, he called on the North to swiftly normalize the inter-Korean dialogue channel in the truce village of Panmunjeom and the military communication line of the West Sea district, saying that it’s important for the military authorities of the two sides to remove risks for accidental clashes around the Military Demarcation Line through dialogue.
