Seoul Proposes Working-Level Talks with N. Korea to Discuss Olympics

South Korea proposed holding working-level talks with the North on Monday to discuss its participation in the PyeongChang Olympics.

Seoul on Friday offered to hold the talks at 10 a.m. on the South Korean side of the Panmunjeom border village. It notified the North that it will send a three-member delegation led by Vice Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung.

The Unification Ministry said the message signed by Minister Cho Myoung-gyon was sent via the Panmunjeom liaison channel on Friday afternoon to North Korea's chief delegate to the recent high-level inter-Korean talks Ri Son-gwon who is chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland.

South Korea is said to have made the offer as there was no word on such talks from the North for three days after their high-level dialogue.

During the working-level talks, the two Koreas are expected to coordinate the size of the high-level delegation, cheering squad and performing artists North Korea said it will send to the Winter Games.

The North Koreans' travel route to South Korea, their accommodation and related expenses will also likely be discussed, as well as issues regarding the two Koreas' joint entry at the Olympic opening ceremony and holding joint cheering sessions.

The two Koreas plan to finalize discussions on the North's participation in the Olympics when they meet International Olympic Committee officials in Lausanne, Switzerland, next Saturday.
