S. Korean Envoys Meet N. Korean Leader, Attend Dinner

President Moon Jae-in's special envoys met North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Monday evening after arrival in Pyongyang earlier in the day.

South Korean presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom revealed in a media briefing that the special envoys would have a meeting with the North Korean leader and attend a dinner with him from 6 p.m.

The South Korean delegation, led by President Moon's chief security adviser Chung Eui-yong, landed at Pyongyang Sunan International Airport at 2:50 p.m., an hour after departing on their two-day visit from Seoul Airport in Seongnam, south of Seoul.

Chung is known to have delivered a letter from President Moon Jae-in to the North Korean leader.

It is the first time the North Korean leader has met South Korean government officials since he came to power in 2012.

Upon arrival at the North Korean airport, the delegation was greeted by Ri Son-gwon, chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, and Maeng Kyong-il, deputy director of the United Front Department of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

They then traveled to Kobangsan guesthouse in Pyongyang, where they held discussions with Kim Yong-chol, vice chief of the Central Committee of the North's ruling Workers' Party, about their itinerary, including a meeting with the North Korean leader.
