The first inter-Korean summit in more than a decade will take place next month.

Announcing the outcome of a two-day visit to Pyongyang, South Korea's chief presidential envoy Chung Eui-yong said Tuesday that the two Koreas have agreed on a meeting between President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at the border truce village of Panmunjeom at the end of April.

Chung added the two sides will have working-level talks to help arrange the summit, the third of its kind following the previous ones in 2000 and 2007 held under two other liberal South Korean leaders, Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun, respectively.

According to Chung, the two sides also decided to establish a hot line to ease military tension and for close communication, adding the two leaders will hold their first phone conversation using the hot line ahead of the summit.

Chung, who led the South Korean envoys for the talks with the North Korean leader in Pyongyang on Monday, said the North clarified its will for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and made sure it has no reason to possess nuclear weapons if military threats against the regime are resolved and it's given a security guarantee.

Pyongyang also expressed its will to hold candid talks with the U.S. to discuss the denuclearization issue and the normalization of Washington-Pyongyang ties.

The South Korean official said the North also confirmed it will not resume strategic provocations, including additional nuclear or ballistic missile tests while “talks” are under way, noting the North also promised not to use conventional or nuclear weapons against the South.

He added Pyongyang also requested the South to send a taekwondo demonstration team and an art troupe to Pyongyang to continue the momentum of reconciliation and cooperation between the two Koreas.
