Moon's Envoys to N. Korea Depart for US Thursday

Two of President Moon Jae-in’s special envoys who visited Pyongyang and met North Korean leader Kim Jong-un earlier this week embarked on a trip to the U.S. on Thursday.

Head of the presidential National Security Office Chung Eui-yong and National Intelligence Service chief Suh Hoon are scheduled to stay in the U.S. for four days and hold talks with officials on three occasions.

A senior presidential official told reporters on Thursday that upon their arrival, Chung and Suh will meet with two senior officials related to security and intelligence.

The official stopped short of elaborating who the U.S. officials are but they are likely to be U.S. National Security Adviser Herbert McMaster and CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

The two envoys are also expected to hold talks with three heads of departments related to North Korea affairs.

Before returning home, the officials will visit the White House to convey the North's message and to persuade Washington to launch talks with Pyongyang.

They are highly likely to meet with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, but are known to still be fine-tuning the itinerary with the U.S.
