S. Korea Confirms List of 5-Member Delegation to Inter-Korean Talks

The vice ministers of land and culture and sports have been included in a South Korean delegation that will attend high-level talks with North Korea on Wednesday.

The South Korean government on Tuesday confirmed the five-member delegation, led by Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon, that will discuss the implementation of the Panmunjeom Declaration adopted during last month’s inter-Korean summit.

Second Vice Land Minister Kim Jung-ryul and Second Vice Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Roh Tae-kang will join Cho at the truce village of the Panmunjeom on Wednesday morning.

Kim’s inclusion is said to be related to a plan to link railways across the border.

Roh is expected to discuss the possibility of forming a unified Korean team during the 2018 Asian Games that kick off in Jakarta in August.

The North earlier confirmed it was sending its vice railway and sports ministers to the talks.

Ryu Kwang-soo, vice minister of the South's Korea Forest Service, will also attend the talks. It's thought he will discuss possible cooperation on the afforestation of the North alongside Kim Nam-jung, a senior official at Seoul's Unification Ministry.

The two Koreas are expected to exchange opinions on how to implement major agreements reached during the inter-Korean summit, including the creation of a joint liaison office and holding joint events to mark the anniversaries of previous inter-Korean agreements.

They are also expected to discuss an agreed plan to hold general-level military talks this month as well as a reunion of war-separated families on August 15th.
