Ex-US Ambassador Named Chief US Envoy to Six-Party Talks

Sung Kim, the former United States Ambassador to South Korea, has been named as U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy and the chief U.S. envoy to the six-party talks.

In a press statement, State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that Secretary of State John Kerry named Kim as the successor of Glyn Davies.

Psaki added that Kim will also serve as new deputy assistant secretary for Korea and Japan to handle North Korea's nuclear issues and the resumption of six-party talks.

Kim previously served as the U.S. special envoy for the six-party talks and was involved in negotiations on North Korea's nuclear program before coming to Seoul in 2011 as the U.S. ambassador to South Korea.
