According to Malaysian media reports, an explosion on board a South Korean vessel sailing in Malaysian waters killed its two crew members.

Malaysia's coast guard said there was an explosion in the ship DL CALLA which was passing through the waters near the eastern Pulau Kapas at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The coast guard speculates that a gas leakage may have caused the explosion.

The coast guard said due to the explosion, two crew members, a 56-year-old South Korean national surnamed Soh and a Myanmar sailor were killed, while two others, a 64-year-old South Korean surnamed Choi and another Myanmar national were injured.

A rescue ship arrived at the accident site about 40 minutes after receiving a distress call from the Korea Coast Guard, but the fire on the vessel had already been extinguished.

The ship was on its way to a port in Thailand to unload a cargo of liquefied natural gas.
