Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported Friday that a former British Consul-General in Guangzhou has been appointed the new top British diplomatic envoy to North Korea.
RFA said Alastair Morgan will replace Mike Gifford as British Ambassador to North Korea, taking office in Pyongyang in December.
Morgan started his career as a public official in the 1980s at the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, the predecessor of the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS).
He moved to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in 1992, and had worked as a British diplomat mostly in East Asia, including Tokyo, Beijing and Guangzhou.
