US Envoy: China Agrees on Need to Pressure N. Korea

U.S. special representative for North Korea policy Sung Kim says that China has also expressed support for the need to pressure North Korea.

In a news conference in Beijing, Kim said China agreed that pressure has to be an important part of the overall approach on North Korea. China's response came after South Korea, the U.S. and Japan proposed the need to step up pressure on Pyongyang.

When asked if China is expected to take part in new sanctions on the regime, Kim said that Beijing agreed that pressure and sanctions should be included in the overall approach on dealing with the North.

He added that the U.S. observed China implementing U.N. Security Council resolutions against North Korea more powerfully over the years.

Arriving in Beijing for a visit from Thursday, the U.S. envoy met with his Chinese counterpart Wu Dawei and discussed the North Korean nuclear issue including ways to re-start the six-nation nuclear dialogue.
