North Korea's kimchi-making tradition has been added to UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
The decision was made on Wednesday during the 10th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Windhoek, Namibia.
The committee said kimchi-making in the North is shared by people from all walks of life and is inherited from generation to generation.
It is the second time the North's intangible heritage has been recognized by the world cultural and education body, following the folk song Arirang in November last year.
UNESCO also previously recognized South Korea's "gimjang" culture of making kimchi and folk song Arirang.

That means the listing of North Korea's kimchi-making culture is the second time the same subject has been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage.
