US Supports Park's Proposal to Hold 5-Way Nuke Talks

The United States has expressed support for President Park Geun-hye's proposal to hold five-way talks, without Pyongyang, to discuss North Korea's nuclear issue.
In a statement sent to a South Korean media outlet on Saturday, a spokesperson at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul relayed Washington's support for Park's call.
The statement noted that the U.S. believes "coordination with the other parties would be a useful step in [the] ongoing efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula through credible and authentic negotiations."
During a policy briefing on diplomacy and national security on Friday, President Park said the six-way nuclear dialogue has not been held for the past eight years.
She said that even if the talks open, doubts on the effectiveness will be raised if the talks do not help to denuclearize North Korea.
She called for finding various and creative approaches including holding a five-way meeting without North Korea.
The six-party talks, which involve the two Koreas, the U.S., Japan, China and Russia, have been stalled since the last meeting took place in 2008.
