US, China Working to Narrow Gaps on N. Korea Sanctions

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attempt to iron out details of fresh UN sanctions on North Korea for its nuclear weapons test last month.

The two officials will convene in Washington on Tuesday and hold a news conference after their meeting.

Wang is expected to convey China’s final stance on UN Security Council sanctions on the North.

The U.S. has been calling for strong and effective sanctions on North Korea that are able to change the behavior of the Kim Jong-un regime, urging China’s full support. Beijing has traditionally opposed strong punitive measures against Pyongyang.
