China Expresses Opposition to Actions Inciting Tension

China has urged concerned parties not to engage in actions that can escalate tensions in regards to the UN Security Council's(UNSC) press statement adopted Friday denouncing North Korea's latest submarine-launched ballistic missile(SLBM) launch.

In a regular briefing Monday, Beijing's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying said that the UNSC has clear stipulations regarding North Korea's missile launches. She said that China hopes concerned nations will maintain calm and restraint and avoid actions that provoke one another or escalate regional tension.

On the fresh statement produced by the Security Council, Hua said the message conveyed by the council is balanced, adding that China's stance on Korean Peninsula-related affairs has been consistent.

She explained the stance as three-pronged: denuclearizing and building peace and stability on the peninsula and seeking resolution through dialogue and negotiations.
