US Defense Chief to Seek Modernization of US Nuclear Arsenal

The United States has hinted that it will actively seek to modernize its nuclear arsenal to counter possible nuclear attacks by potential adversaries like North Korea and Russia.

U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said during a visit to Minot Air Force Base in North Dakata on Monday, that Pentagon will spend 108 billion U.S. dollars to replace outdated nuclear weapons and develop next-generation nuclear arms.

The Associated Press and AFP reported that it marked Carter's first remarks regarding the U.S.' nuclear arsenal since he took office in February.

In a related speech, Carter made it clear that he will push for the nuclear modernization plan by saying that he will not eliminate or reduce any of its nuclear forces.
