VOA: 12 Nations Make Changes to Ties with N. Korea

Voice of America reports at least 12 countries have shown substantive changes in their diplomatic and economic relations with North Korea in recent days following the U.S. request for countries to sever diplomatic ties with the regime.

The report said signs have been detected that many countries around the world are now pressuring North Korea through diplomatic measures in the wake of the North’s fourth nuclear test early this year.

The U.S. broadcaster said this trend gained strength as senior officials of South Korea and the U.S. pursued aggressive diplomacy while touring African nations.

VOA said at least 12 countries have sought practical changes in their ties with Pyongyang through diplomatic or economic measures. Mongolia, Vietnam, Uganda and Angola are among those cited.

Mongolia has canceled the registration of 14 North Korean vessels as part of implementing UN Security Council resolutions. Vietnam, which has had diplomatic ties with North Korea for six decades, banished a blacklisted North Korean diplomat from the country.
