White House Condemns N. Korea's Missile Launch

The White House has strongly condemned the latest North Korean missile test on Saturday.

While stressing that the North again violated UN resolutions, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters on Monday that the U.S. has mobilized appropriate military resources to defend itself and its allies.

"And that is why the United States has been in discussions with our South Korean allies about deploying a THAAD battery and anti-ballistic missile battery to South Korea to protect South Korea from the ballistic missile threat emanating from North Korea."

Asked to respond to the North Korean Foreign Ministry’s Institute for American Studies director Ri Yong-pil, who warned the North may conduct more nuclear experiment and wage a preemptive strike against the U.S., Earnest said Washington is deeply worried about the North's disregard of its basic international obligations.

He said it is a source of concern not only for the U.S. but also for its regional allies, South Korea and Japan.
