'Japan to Work with Related Countries to Impose Stronger Sanctions against N. Korea'

A senior Japanese official has said Tokyo will continue to work with related countries in order to impose stronger sanctions against Pyongyang.

Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said on Tuesday during a news conference that by unanimously adopting a statement condemning the regime for Saturday’s intermediate-range missile launch attempt, the UN Security Council clearly conveyed it will not tolerate the North’s continued missile launches.

Suga said that the UNSC also reaffirmed that North Korea must fully abide by UN resolutions.

He said that Japan will closely work with the United States, South Korea and relevant countries to adopt a new UN resolution containing a fresh package of punitive measures against Pyongyang.
