Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Visits N. Korea

Amid ongoing efforts by the international community to toughen sanctions on North Korea, a high-ranking Chinese official reportedly visited the North.

According to Japan's Kyodo News, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin arrived in Pyongyang on Monday via airplane, leading a Chinese delegation.

They were said to have been greeted by North Korean officials, including from the Foreign Ministry, at Pyongyang Airport.

Kyodo reported that Liu will attend a joint committee meeting concerning the border between China and the North.

The news agency added that it appears North Korea is continuing its usual exchanges with China although the international community is working to adopt a new set of sanctions on the North following its fifth nuclear test last month.

Liu's trip is the first known visit to Pyongyang by a high-ranking Chinese official since China’s top nuclear envoy Wu Dawei traveled to the country in February.
