Chinese Daily: Yasukuni Shrine Visit an Insult to US

hina's state-run media outlets have strongly criticized the Japanese defense minister's visit to the controversial Yasukuni war shrine.

The Global Times, which is a sister publication of the ruling Communist Party's gazette, the People's Daily, said in an editorial Friday that Minister Tomomi Inada's visit to the shrine is a "slap on the face of U.S. President Barack Obama."

The paper said the minister visited Yasukuni right after accompanying Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Pearl Harbor.

The editorial said that "perhaps it is the Obama administration and the Americans who should feel most insulted by Japan's tricks, rather than China and South Korea."

It further noted that Pearl Harbor and the Yasukuni Shrine, which embody totally different meanings, are placed at the same level by Japan, and added that the "whole world finds it hard to follow Japan's logic."
