South Korean diplomatic missions in China have launched an exclusive online notification channel to protect South Koreans residing in China amid rising anti-Korean sentiment over the deployment of the THAAD antimissile system.
According to sources in Beijing on Monday, South Korea’s Embassy in China created a WeChat account for South Korean residents to swiftly spread information on safety.
Unlike the existing WeChat account that the embassy is currently operating, only residents with South Korean nationality can join the new account named “Korea0404.”
The missions are seeking to prevent the spread of ungrounded rumors about THAAD and unnecessary misunderstandings.
The embassy earlier issued an official notification urging South Koreans residing in China to exercise extra caution in regards to their safety.
