China Relocates Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Hall

China has recently relocated a memorial hall to honor Korean independence fighter Ahn Jung-geun in Harbin amid China’s retaliation over South Korea’s deployment of the U.S. THAAD antimissile system.

According to local sources in three northeastern provinces in China on Wednesday, the Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Hall located at Harbin Railway Station in Heilongjiang Province was recently relocated to a Korean art museum in Harbin City.

Chinese railway authorities explain that the memorial was temporarily relocated as they launched remodeling of the railway station last Wednesday.

An official at an Ahn Jung-geun research institute said that the remodeling project is necessary and has been pursued for a few years, but many people have doubt that the memorial will be reopened at the railway station after the remodeling, given the strained relations between Seoul and Beijing.
