38 North: Vehicles Detected at N. Korea's Nuclear Test Site

The United States-based North Korea monitoring Web site 38 North said Saturday that satellite imagery has detected signs of a possible fresh nuclear test at the North’s Punggye-ri nuclear test site.

In an article posted on 38 North, analysts Joseph Bermudez and Jack Liu said that four or five vehicles or trailers were seen at the entrance to the North Portal, the site of the North’s past four nuclear tests.

Bermudez and Liu said that if these vehicles are related to test preparations, they could be involved in the installation of instrumentation or even a nuclear device.

They said, however, that the evidence is not definitive and the vehicles may be there for other purposes as well.

The article added that there is little apparent activity at the West Portal, but it may mean either that Pyongyang is in the final stages of test preparations or that the site is in a standard operating mode.
