Pence, Abe Affirm Cooperation in Tackling N. Korea's Threats

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said Tuesday that Washington appreciates the challenging time in which the people of Japan live faced with increasing provocations from North Korea.

Pence made the comment before lunch with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe after he arrived in Tokyo from Seoul. He made clear that the U.S. will jointly counter the North’s nuclear and missile threats with Japan.

According to Japan’s Kyodo News, Abe told Pence during a luncheon meeting that he wants to demonstrate that the strong bond of their countries’ alliance remains unshaken.

Abe and Pence also affirmed that their countries will work closely with South Korea on tackling the North’s nuclear and missile provocations.
