China’s State Councilor Yang Jiechi pledged on Wednesday that Beijing will fully and sternly implement UN Security Council resolutions sanctioning North Korea.
According to China’s Foreign Ministry, Yang made the remark to reporters after meeting with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in Beijing on Wednesday.
Yang said the situation on the Korean Peninsula is tense and complicated and that Beijing is keeping a close eye on it.
He then stressed that China remains firmly committed to realizing denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, maintaining peace and stability and resolving problems via dialogue and negotiations.
Yang added that Beijing is opposed to any kind of words and actions that would escalate tensions and urged related countries to exert active efforts to ease the situation.
