Radio Free Asia says the UK's top diplomat has urged China to exert its influence in resolving North Korea's nuclear issue.
RFA reported on Thursday that British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson told a parliamentary session on Tuesday that he urged Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi last week to use Beijing’s influence to restrain North Korea and allow peaceful resolution to the nuclear crisis.
The U.S. international broadcaster quoted Johnson as saying North Korea's recent actions provided “proof of the threat the country poses to international peace and security.”
The secretary expressed his belief that “all hopes of progress rest on international cooperation between China and the U.S.” in steering North Korea away from its pursuit of nuclear weapons.
In addition, he called for a verifiable disarmament of Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.
