Yang: China Will Work Closely with S. Korea on Peninsula Affairs

China’s State Councilor Yang Jiechi on Monday told a visiting South Korean government delegation that Beijing will, without fail, work closely with Seoul on Korean Peninsula affairs.
According to the government delegation on Tuesday, Yang made the pledge in Beijing when he met with ruling Democratic Party lawmaker Park Byeong-seug, who is leading the government delegation.
Yang reaffirmed China’s three principles on the Korean Peninsula --- denuclearization, establishment of peace and stability and seeking dialogue and negotiations.
He proposed that Seoul and Beijing work on restoring their ties in line with the launch of the Moon Jae-in administration. He then stressed that mutual respect is important when addressing issues that matter to each country.
In response, Park said that war must never break out on the peninsula under any circumstances and that no discussions or decisions on the future of the peninsula can take place without South Korea.
