Russia Deploys Advanced Antimissile System Buk-M3 in Far East

Russia has reportedly deployed its cutting-edge antimissile system in the Far East as a precautionary measure in the event that the situation on the Korean Peninsula deteriorates.

Russian media Sputnik and Izvestiya reported that the Russian Defense Ministry recently deployed the Buk-M3 medium-range surface-to-air missile system at an air defense unit of the Russian Eastern Military District.

The unit is said to be the first in Siberia and the Far East to receive the cutting-edge systems.

The media outlets quoted a source in the ministry as saying that the antimissile system will likely be fully operational late this year given that the military personnel operating the system will receive intensive training for two months starting later this month.

The Buk-M3, a modernized version of the Buk-M2 system, reportedly can track and engage up to 36 targets with the maximum range of 70 kilometers.
