Guam Governor Eddie Calvo has dismissed North Korea’s threat to contain U.S. military bases on the Pacific island with ballistic missiles, saying it is fully ready to defend itself in case of “any eventuality.”

Calvo made the remark in a video message released Wednesday, pointing out that Guam is American soil and not just a military installation.

He said he communicated with the White House regarding the North’s threat and was assured by the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security that there was no change in the threat level.

The governor also plans to hold a meeting with military leaders of the Pacific island and first responders to discuss their preparedness against a possible attack.

Early Wednesday, North Korea's strategic rocket force threatened to fire intermediate-range ballistic missiles towards Guam, following the passage of a new U.S.-led resolution against the regime at the UN Security Council(UNSC).
