US Requests UNSC to Vote on New N. Korean Sanctions

AFP news agency reports the U.S. has formally asked the UN Security Council to vote Monday on a resolution to impose more sanctions on North Korea following its sixth nuclear test.
The report said the U.S. mission to the United Nations released a statement Friday, saying it intends to call a Security Council meeting on Monday to vote on a draft resolution of the sanctions.
The U.S. circulated the draft resolution on Wednesday among 14 Security Council members. The resolution calls for an oil embargo on the North, the use of military power to inspect North Korean ships, freezing assets of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, and banning textile exports from the regime.
However, it's known that China and Russia, who are permanent UNSC members with veto power, are not in favor of the new sanctions.
