UC Schools Sue Trump Over Ending DACA

Korean students in the western U.S. have joined a lawsuit to protest President Donald Trump's decision to rescind the immigrant youth protection program known as DACA or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

The University of California(UC) system and its president Janet Napolitano, who as Homeland Security Secretary helped create the program under former President Barack Obama, filed a lawsuit against Trump over his decision to end DACA.

Writing on the U.S. political Web site The Hill, Napolitano said Friday that "it is hard to imagine a decision less reasoned, more damaging or undertaken with less care."

She said that ending DACA is contrary to U.S. national values. She added it is imperative to stand up for the vital members of the UC community.

About two-thousand ethnic Korean students were enrolled in UC schools across the western U.S. as of the fall semester of 2016.

The Trump administration announced Tuesday it was ending the Obama-era program, which protected from deportation immigrants often called the "dreamers" who came to the country illegally as children.
