IAEA Forms Team to Monitor N. Korean Nuke Program

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) says that the international nuclear watchdog has formed a team to monitor North Korea's nuclear program.

IAEA Secretary-General Yukiya Amano called on North Korea to abide by UN Security Council resolutions and IAEA regulations on Monday during a news conference before the IAEA meeting in Austria.

The IAEA chief expressed deep regret over the North's latest nuclear test, criticizing Pyongyang for conducted the test in total disregard of the international community's continued calls for North Korea to stop its nuclear development.

Amano said that the IAEA set up the monitoring team to strengthen its capabilities to deal with the North Korean nuclear issue and prepare for a possible return to the IAEA by the North.

North Korea expelled IAEA inspectors in April 2009 and conducted its second nuclear test in May that year.
