US House to Hold Hearing on N. Korea

The U.S. House of Representatives will hold a hearing on Tuesday on North Korea.

The congressional hearing titled "Sanctions, Diplomacy, Information: Pressuring North Korea" comes after the North's sixth nuclear test on September third.

Susan Thornton, acting assistant secretary for the East Asian and Pacific Affairs Bureau at the State Department, and Marshall Billingslea, assistant secretary for the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence under the Treasury Department, will attend the hearing to explain the U.S. diplomacy and sanctions against Pyongyang.

Regarding the hearing, Ed Royce, chairman of the House Foreign Relations Committee, said that North Korea conducted the most powerful nuclear test and is continuing to improve intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities. He added that sanctions, diplomacy and information must be fully utilized to address this direct threat to the U.S. and its allies.

He said that with the hearing, the House will examine additional steps to exert maximum pressure on North Korea.
