Jimmy Carter Urges Trump to Engage in Dialogue with N. Korea

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has urged President Donald Trump to engage in dialogue with North Korea.

The Associated Press(AP) reported Tuesday that Carter issued his criticism of the nation’s direction under the Republican president’s leadership during an annual event at the Carter Center in Atlanta.

He said Trump should engage directly with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and discuss a peace treaty to replace the cease-fire that ended the Korean War in 1953.

The 39th president also offered to send his top person to Pyongyang immediately, if he didn’t go himself, noting that he has been to North Korea three times.

Carter added that the North Koreans want a treaty that guarantees the U.S. will not attack unless North Korea attacks the U.S. or its allies.
