EU Expands Sanctions on N. Korea in Line with UN

The European Union has stepped up sanctions against North Korea in line with tougher sanctions adopted by the UN last month.

The EU said on Tuesday that it will ban the sale of natural gas liquids to North Korea and imports of North Korean textiles, and limit the sale of refined petroleum products and crude oil to the North.

The EU also said member states will no longer give work authorization to North Koreans because money made abroad is suspected of being used by Pyongyang to support its illegal nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Last month, EU ambassadors agreed to produce autonomous measures to complement and reinforce UN sanctions against North Korea. The EU will determine the new sanctions at a foreign ministers' meeting next Monday.

The UN Security Council approved sanctions resolution 2375 on September 11th after the North conducted its strongest nuclear test to date on September third.
