Australian Foreign Minister Expresses Hard-Line Stance on N. Korea

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has warned that failure to economically and diplomatically isolate North Korea could encourage the proliferation of nuclear weapons around the world.

Minister Bishop wrote an opinion piece for the Sydney Morning Herald Wednesday.

She argued that a failure to enforce the resolutions and check North Korea's nuclear ambitions could embolden other nations to act illegally in pursuit of atomic weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.

She said Australia supports Washington's policy of keeping all options on the table, including military measures to deter the regime's nuclear threat.

A day earlier, Australia barred the North Korean youth football team from entering the country for the Asian Football Confederation championship qualifiers in November.

The venue for the Under-19s qualifier will now be moved from Australia to a neutral location overseas.
