Foreign, Defense Chiefs of S. Korea, Australia to Hold Security Talks in Seoul

Foreign and defense chiefs of South Korea and Australia will hold a meeting on Friday to discuss cooperation in security issues including the North Korean nuclear threat.

South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and Defense Minister Song Young-moo will meet with their Australian counterparts Julie Bishop and Marise Payne for the so-called two-plus-two talks at the ministry building in Seoul.

The two sides will discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the face of the North's nuclear and missile threats. They will also discuss substantial ways to improve cooperation in diverse areas of nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction, cyber security and border security.

The ministers will also evaluate the implements of a detailed blueprint for progressing the bilateral defense and security partnership, which was produced after the 2015 two-plus-two meeting.

The foreign and defense ministers will hold a joint news conference after the Friday meeting.
