'Malaysia Won't Deploy Ambassador to N. Korea'

Malaysia has decided not to deploy an ambassador to North Korea to replace the one it recalled in response to the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's half-brother, Kim Jong-nam, in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year.

The New Straits Times reported that Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman revealed the plan during a dialogue at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak on Thursday.

He said his ministry will file recommendation papers for the Malaysian embassy in Beijing to be accredited to North Korea to handle all their affairs with the North in the future.

Malaysia had been on friendly terms with the North after establishing diplomatic ties in 1973, but their relations soured after Kim’s murder in February, allegedly masterminded by North Korean agents.
