S. Korean Navy, 3 US Carriers to Conduct Joint Drill

The South Korean Navy will hold a joint naval exercise with the United States involving three U.S. aircraft carriers off the eastern coast on Sunday.

The South Korean military said that the USS Ronald Reagan, the USS Nimitz and the USS Theodore Roosevelt will stage a joint drill with the South Korean Navy on Sunday afternoon in the Korea theater of operations (KTO) off the country's east coast.

The KTO is a theater for military operations near the Korean Peninsula, which is designated by the commander of combined forces of South Korea and the United States.

One of the three carriers reportedly entered the KTO on Saturday, while the two others will arrive on Sunday afternoon after a joint drill with Japan.

It marks the first time that three U.S. aircraft carriers conduct joint exercises with South Korea's Navy.

Seven South Korean navy vessels will take part in the exercises, including two Aegis ships.
