China Holds Major Drill in Response to Deployment of 3 US Carriers

A Hong Kong daily reports that China held a large-scale military exercise in response to the joint drill involving the South Korean Navy and three U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carriers in the East Sea.
Ming Pao, a Chinese-language newspaper published by Hong Kong's Ming Pao Group, said Monday that the Eastern Theater Command of China's People's Liberation Army has been conducting a major combined drill of its Navy and Air Force in the East China Sea since last week.
The report cited a Hong Kong military expert as saying that the exercise clearly appears to be in response to the South Korea-U.S. joint drill which is mobilizing three U.S. carriers.
On Sunday, the USS Ronald Reagan, USS Nimitz and USS Theodore Roosevelt entered South Korea's military operation zone, called the Korea Theater of Operations, in the East Sea to carry out joint maneuvers with South Korean Navy warships.
