Leaders of S. Korea, Philippines Agree to Enhance Ties

The leaders of South Korea and the Philippines have agreed to further strengthen relations of their countries and closely cooperate in diverse areas.
President Moon Jae-in and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte held their first summit on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) forum in Manila on Monday.
The presidential office said that during the summit, Moon expressed hope to upgrade the country's relations with the Philippines, explaining Seoul's plan to improve ties with Southeast Asian nations.
Duterte praised Moon's policy to create a community where all ASEAN members are better off together, and promised active cooperation for Seoul's efforts to realize the vision.
The two leaders agreed to further enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, defense, and infrastructure and development projects.
Moon also asked the Philippine president to pay special attention to the safety of South Korean residents and tourists in the Philippines, to which Duterte responded positively.
President Moon invited Duterte to visit South Korea at a convenient time, and the Philippine president gladly accepted the invitation.
