Chinese Media: Seoul-Beijing Ties Recovering in Economy, Culture, Academia

A state-run Chinese newspaper says there are signs that South Korea and China are reinvigorating their bilateral exchanges in various areas, including economy, culture, tourism and academia.

The English-language Global Times said Tuesday that the change comes after the governments of South Korea and China agreed to put aside their conflicts over the deployment of the U.S. THAAD antimissile system in South Korea and pursue the development of a strategic relationship.

The daily said BTG International Travel and Tours has confirmed it could resume group tour packages to South Korea immediately, if necessary, while China Youth Travel Service plans to resume the same services in February.

Lotte Asset Development’s plan to build a large-sized commercial complex in Chengdu in Sichuan Province had been suspended for more than six months, but Chinese authorities approved the plan on October 31st, when the two countries agreed to normalize their strained ties.

As for think tanks, China’s public diplomacy agency, Chahar, brought 13 Chinese power bloggers to South Korea on November sixth at the invitation of the Korea Foundation.
