Chinese Pres. Xi's Special Envoy to Visit N. Korea on Fri.

A special envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit North Korea later this week.
According to China’s Xinhua News Agency on Wednesday, Song Tao, the head of the Communist Party of China(CPC) Central Committee’s International Department, will leave for the North on Friday and will inform Pyongyang of the results of the CPC's 19th Congress.
The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency also announced that Song will be visiting soon as Xi’s special envoy.
The visit is not out of the ordinary as Song has already traveled to Vietnam and Laos between October 31st and November third and explained the results of the CPC’s 19th Congress.
Nevertheless, attention is being drawn to the upcoming visit as it comes after Xi and U.S. President Donald Trump held in-depth discussions last Wednesday on the North’s nuclear issue.
Song’s visit also comes as Xi held bilateral talks with President Moon Jae-in, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the sidelines of regional gatherings in Vietnam last week.
As a result, Song is likely to launch mediatory efforts for the resumption of the stalled six-way nuclear talks by conveying not only the views of China but also of other member states when he meets with senior North Korean officials.
