Trump Declares Jerusalem Israel's Capital, Raising Tensions

U.S. President Donald Trump has recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital, reversing decades of U.S. policy of neutrality on Jerusalem and raising tensions in the Middle East.
Trump made the announcement in a statement at the White House on Wednesday.

"Today, we finally acknowledge the obvious: that Jerusalem is Israel's capital. This is nothing more or less than a recognition of reality. It is also the right thing to do."
Trump also said his administration would begin the process of moving the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which is considered a holy site by the Muslim, Jewish and Christian religions and one of the biggest obstacles to reaching a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.
Trump's announcement prompted immediate objections from the leaders of France and Britain as well as within the U.S.
