Moon, Trump: Inter-Korean Talks May Lead to Talks between US, N. Korea

The leaders of South Korea and the United States have agreed that inter-Korean talks may lead to talks between the U.S. and North Korea for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke on the telephone at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, the day after the two Koreas held high-level talks on the North's participation in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Presidential press secretary Yoon Young-chan said that in the 30-minute phone conversation, Moon explained the results of the high-level meeting and the two leaders agreed to closely cooperate on future cross-border talks.

Trump said that the U.S. remains open to talks with Pyongyang should the reclusive state wish to hold such dialogue at an appropriate time and under the right conditions.

He reaffirmed that there would be no military attack of any kind against North Korea while the two Koreas engage in dialogue.

Trump also said that he will send Vice President Mike Pence to the Winter Games as the head of the U.S. delegation next month.
